Victoria is a small state of Australia located on the lower south eastern part of Australia south coast. Victoria is known as the Garden State and was named after Queen Victoria. Victoria is bordered by New South Wales to the north and South Australia to the west. Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria. Victoria is Australia's second most populous state and the second largest economy in Australia. The main industries of Victoria are agriculture, manufacturing, mining and finance/services. The Great Dividing Range runs through Victoria and has some alpine areas that receive large snow falls in winter allowing many mountain slopes to be used for snow skiing.
The transport and road systems in Victoria are very good and this allows people to travel relatively easily to the many tourist destination areas of interest located in the state. Also most places in Victoria can be reached within a single days travel. Some of the main places of interest for tourists are the Gold Mining areas of Ballarat and Bendigo both have plenty of tourist holiday accommodation sites. Places like the Twelve Apostles and Bells Beach are must visit sites when in Victoria. Other tourist destinations include the Morning Peninsula area for great wineries and secluded beaches, Scenic Gippsland lakes area. Major Victorian yearly events include the Melbourne Cup, and Australian International Air Show at Geelong.
The Grampians make great snow skiing areas in winter and during the summer are used for wilderness treks as the accommodation places stay open all year round. The Dandenong Ranges makes great holiday trips with lots of eco friendly retreats supplying family and couples accommodation sites. Phillip Island holds the GP 500 Motorbike Race and accommodation can get very hard to find so book your accommodation early. Melbourne City, the Murray River area and the Great Ocean Road all have plenty of tourist accommodation deals. Victoria has approximately 2000 kilometres of coastline which includes spectacular rocky outcrops and many beachside towns and wilderness beach areas.
